Built by an operator, for operators

We're not marketers who happened to find contractors.

We're contractors who happened to learn marketing. There's a difference, and you'll feel it the first time we get on a call.

Meet the founder

I built On Deck because I was the contractor getting burned by agencies.

Before On Deck, I ran operations for a multi-million-dollar regional home services company. We went through agency after agency. Each one promised the world, locked us into long contracts, sent pretty reports full of "impressions" and "engagement," and produced almost no actual leads.

I kept asking the same question: where are the booked jobs? Nobody could answer it. So I started learning the work myself: first to fix our own funnel, then because other contractors in my network started asking how I did it.

On Deck is the agency I wish had existed when I was on the other side of the table. We measure what matters: leads, booked jobs, revenue. We work in 6-month windows so you can leave if we're not producing. And we put a 90-day guarantee on every engagement because if we can't move the needle in 90 days, we don't deserve your money.

The origin

Built from the operator's chair.

Why most marketing agencies fail home service businesses, and what we do differently.

Most marketing agencies are run by marketers. That sounds obvious, but it's the core problem. Marketers optimize for marketing metrics: clicks, impressions, reach, brand awareness. Contractors don't sell impressions. They sell roofs and HVAC systems and finished basements.

The gap between "good marketing" and "good for the business" is enormous in our space. A campaign with great CTR can produce zero closed jobs. A landing page with terrible Lighthouse scores can convert at 12%. The metrics that look good in a deck are often the ones that don't actually drive revenue.

"We don't care if your bounce rate dropped. We care if your phone rang."

So we built On Deck around a different operating model: we work with a small, hand-picked roster of contractors. We talk in jobs and revenue, not impressions. We obsess over Speed-to-Lead because we've watched perfectly good ad spend evaporate when leads sit for hours. And we sit in monthly ROI calls where we can defend, line by line, what every dollar produced.

It's a higher bar. It also means we can't take just any client. We turn down maybe 40% of inquiries because we won't promise results we can't deliver in their market. But the contractors we do work with stay. Our client retention is 90%+ because the system produces, every month, in dollars they can deposit.

Core principles

How we operate.

Five non-negotiables that govern every account, every call, every dollar of ad spend we manage on your behalf.

01

Revenue or it didn't happen

We track every lead source to a dollar of booked revenue. If we can't attribute it, we don't claim credit. No "estimated impact" or "brand lift," only what actually closed.

02

Speed beats sophistication

A 2-minute response to a lead beats a perfect campaign every time. We obsess over Speed-to-Lead because we've watched every other lever fall apart when this one's broken.

03

Earn the renewal

6-month commitments, then month-to-month. We'd rather lose you than lock you in. The clients who stay 18+ months stay because we keep producing, not because we trapped them.

04

One operator per account

You get a named senior strategist who knows your business, runs your account, and answers your text. No account-management layer between you and the work being done.

05

Tell the truth, even when it's bad

If we screwed up, we say so. If your lead quality dropped this month, we say so. If your competitor is going to outspend you in Q4, we say so. Real partnerships need real candor.

06

Underwrite the work

90-day performance guarantee on every engagement. If qualified leads aren't measurably up, we keep working at no charge. We're putting our money where the deck is.

What's different

Most agencies vs. On Deck.

If you've worked with a marketing agency before, you'll recognize the pattern on the left. Our model is built around fixing every one of these failure modes.

Most agencies
  • ×12-month contracts with auto-renewal
  • ×Reports full of impressions & clicks
  • ×Account managers who don't do the work
  • ×"Best practices" they apply to everyone
  • ×Set-and-forget ad campaigns
  • ×Junior staff on your account
  • ×You chase them for updates
On Deck
  • 6-month, then month-to-month
  • Reports show revenue attributed
  • One named senior operator on your account
  • A custom plan for your market & trades
  • Daily ad management, weekly optimization
  • Founder-touched on every account
  • We text you with wins and problems
The journey

How we got here.

2010s

The operator years

Christopher works as an operator in home services: scaling crews, fixing dispatch chaos, and watching marketing agencies come and go.

2022

The breaking point

Another agency promises the moon and delivers a big invoice with barely any leads. He decides to learn this himself, and builds an in-house funnel that multiplies lead volume within months.

2023

On Deck Marketing LLC founded

August 2023: after fellow contractors keep asking how he did it, he formalizes the system as On Deck Marketing LLC in Waynesboro, VA. The first clients sign because they've been burned by an agency before, and they're still with us.

2024

AI Speed-to-Lead launches

Building on watching dozens of lead-pipeline failures, we launch our AI follow-up engine: sub-2-minute response, 24/7. Clients see lead-to-job rates jump 30%+ within weeks.

2026

50+ contractor sites and counting

Now serving roofers, HVAC, plumbers, electricians, and remodelers across the East Coast. 90%+ retention, $38 average roofing CPL, 6.2x average ROAS. Still founder-led, still hand-picked, still measured in jobs & dollars.
